Bern-Fribourg Master’s in Earth Sciences
Have your Bachelor studies instilled in you a fascination for Geology? Are you interested in pursuing your studies at the Master’s level? Do you wish to train for an exciting career in research or industry?
The Bern–Fribourg Master’s in Earth Sciences is a joint programme run by the Institute of Geological Sciences at the University of Bern and the Department of Geosciences at the University of Fribourg, Switzerland. With only a 22 minute train trip separating the two Universities, students profit from the expanded number of lecturers and researchers, and from the specialized geological know-how and facilities at both institutions. The merger of capabilities allows an exciting and varied curriculum to be offered in a two-year, 120 European Credit (EC) degree, taught in English.

Coursework in these specializations covers theory, field work (often in the nearby Swiss Alps), laboratory work, and integrated studies. In addition to 60 EC of coursework, each student conducts a supervised, 60 EC written thesis on a hands-on theme chosen from the broad range of research projects underway at the partner universities.
