COURSE TITLE: Electron Microbeam Techniques, Laboratory (prer)
LECTURERS: Prof. B. Grob├ęty, C. Neururer
SCOPE:Practical introduction into scanning electron microscopy (SEM), which should allow the participants to use the microscope under the supervision of the responsible technician.
ECTS Credits:1
PREREQUISITES: This course is mandatory for students who wish to use the SEM at Fribourg. Students who wish to use the SEM at Bern must take the equivalent course "Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM): Practical course", held at Bern.
FORMAT:Lab (2 hours weekly)
FREQUENCY:annually in spring semester
CONTENTS:Electron microscopy sample preparation, use of different coating techniques; Basic operation of the SEM (SE and BSE imaging) and the energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS, point analysis, mapping); Short overview of the electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) and cathodo-luminescence microscopy (CL) technique
ASSESSMENT:Report (passed/failed)
