REQUISITES:This course is mandatory for students who wish to use the SEM at Fribourg. Students who wish to use the SEM at Bern must take the equivalent course "Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM): Practical course", held at Bern.

CONTENTS:Electron microscopy sample preparation, use of different coating techniques; Basic operation of the SEM (SE and BSE imaging) and the energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS, point analysis, mapping); Short overview of the electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) and cathodo-luminescence microscopy (CL) techniques
