CONTENTS:The European Rover Challenge (ERC) is an international competition where teams let their self-constructed rover perform tasks on a test yard. The Mars rover team from the technical college of Brugg (FHNW) participated in this competition numerous times. As the competition comprises various scientific tasks connected to geology, the FHNW team needs support by geoscientists. The participants of this workshop will accompany the FNHW team in the ERC competition. There are preparatory tasks which involve the proposition of a scientific hypothesis to be tested on the Mars yard as well as proposing a suitable landing area for the rover using surface imagery and spectral measurements available by NASA. In September, the participants will join the FHNW team in Krakow, Poland for the finale of the rover challenge. As this collaboration means a variable workload at different stages of the project, there are no fixed weekly hours given. Participants will therefore need to coordinate the work sessions autonomously in close collaboration with the course coach and the FHNW team.
ASSESSMENT:Participation in the competition
