(Climate-)Stratigraphy and Natural Hazards Field Course in the Italian Apennine Mountains

SCOPE:Course participants will acquire and/or strengthen their skills in mapping of sedimentary successions and interpreting stratigraphic relationships, Quaternary climate stratigraphy, sediment petrography, and identifying the imprint of tectonic/volcanic natural hazards in the sediment record.

CONTENTS:This field course offers training in geological mapping, logging and interpretation of exposed sediment successions that sensitively document Quaternary climate change as well as active tectonics and cataclysmic volcanism in the Italian Apennine Mountains. To foster academic exchange and to create a dynamic course environment for students from Switzerland and Italy the course will be organized jointly with the University of Pisa and the Italian National Research Council.
