FORMAT:Lecture and practical exercises
FREQUENCY:biennially in spring semester, held in even years
CONTENTS:The course Advanced Carbonate Sedimentology consists of three days of theoretical courses (morning) with integrated practical exercises (afternoon), focusing on well-defined and advanced thematic topics in carbonate sedimentology, resp. cool- and deep-water carbonates, carbonates in continental environments, microbial carbonates and carbonate reservoirs (porosity and diagenesis in a sequence stratigraphic framework). Two days of excursion will concentrate on the topics discussed during the theoretical courses. Teaching aims: Recognition and interpretation of carbonate deposits in non-classical environments, such as cool- and deep waters and continental environments. Understanding the role of microbes in carbonate depositional processes. Emphasizing the depositional and diagenetic controls on carbonate reservoir development (and the impact on porosity and permeability).
ASSESSMENT:written exam

(prer): Courses with prerequisites.
