CONTENTS:This course shows, how sediments store past environmental conditions and changes, including climate, human impact and natural hazards (earthquakes, rock slides, tsunamis). The students will learn how lake and ocean sediments can be used to reconstruct such changes and events. Emphasis is also given on the modern depositiona processes essential in interpreting the fossil record. 2 h weekly lecture plus 2-day field course Kastanienbaum.
