SCOPE: | Introduction to mass spectrometry in a geological context, with theoretical principles and data reduction, as well as practical work allowing the student to do mass spectrometric analyses on in-house instrumentation independently. |

CONTENTS: | History, sample dissolution, chemical separation of elements, isotope dilution methods, types of mass-spectrometers and their applications, data reduction with uncertainty assessment, laser ablation mass-spectrometry with particular requirements of multilement analyses heavy stable isotope data reduction. Practical work: students will be guided through the whole process of preparing and measuring a set of samples. |
